About Us

Bar Harbor Shuttle LLC began operations in 2006 by owner/operator Helen Witham. Helen was born and raised in Bar Harbor and has lived in the area most of her life. She relocated for a number of years to pursue a teaching career in South Portland, Maine, but upon retirement she moved back.

Helen is an avid adventurer and loves the outdoors. She has biked across the southern half of the United States and trekked across Ireland on foot in her mid-60s.
Helen took notice of the difficulty travelers encountered when trying to get to Mount Desert Island from Bangor and started Bar Harbor Shuttle LLC to provide a quality dependable service to fill that need.

In Honor of Helen Witham..

Helen passed away on February 2, 2022. Many of our passengers have grown to love and appreciate Helen. Helen had a unique authenticity and her passion for life was infectious. If you had the pleasure of being a passenger on the Bar Harbor Shuttle, you often heard stories of Bar Harbor which included highlighting the best places to visit during your stay. Helen’s stories could entertain those she met for hours, whether it was a detailed account of her biking the southern tier of the country, her biking trip in Puerto Rico, or when she went white water rafting in Colorado at 71 years of age, no ride went without a personal narrative.
